PROJECT REFLECTION

Fairey Project

The Fairey Project was really one of my favorite projects in this class. I got to learn about a historical artist, Shepard Fairey, and recreate my good friend Ethan Bernhardt into a stunning masterpiece based off of his artwork.I enjoyed working with the limited color palette, as it provided a fresh challenge to work with. It was also rather interesting to create the rays emanating from his face. The only real difficult I had was deciding on which imagine I wanted to use as a base image for the colors. There were so many good ones, but I eventually decided on the one with yellow and blue.

House Project

My house was the longest project I worked on. It took me two weeks to finish. Part of why it took this long is that I delayed everything with my forgetfulness. First, I forgot to go outside and take a picture of my house before it was dark. When we started work in class, she showed us several examples. One thing she showed us was how to do bricks. Unfortunately, I forgot how she showed us, so I just did every single brick by hand. It was tedious work, taking several days just for each section of wall, but I eventually got it done and finished.

Mental Health Poster

The mental health poster was perhaps my favorite project in this class. I love looking at the posters with little inspirational/motivational quotes on them, and the fact that I got to create one that would work on me really did wonders. The statue of Jesus sunken into the ocean, and the searching for quotes exposed me to things I ordinarily would never have come across. Another part of it was that it was for a contest, and it could be used to help others in the future get the mentality to deal with their problems. The thought of that service to others really made me feel good about myself.

Mountains Project

The mountains were the first real project I remember we did in this class. Mine were not very detailed. When you’re just starting out, you don’t know your own style yet, and it might seem different than the stuff you do later on in graphic design. The project was more similar to others than my more individualized later projects. This is due to this project being more about learning the tools in Adobe Illustrator than creating a mountain scene. I still enjoyed creating it, as it allowed me a better understanding of the tools for my later projects. It was a good starting point to be introduced to the rest of illustrator.

Shoe Project

The shoe project ended up one of my favorites for the year. It was one of the more detailed projects based on tracing an image. Personally, I liked those types of projects as they ended up looking better to me. I liked the three-dimensional look of the design. and how much I was able to make it look like the actual shoe. Another part of why I liked it was the fact that I had just gotten new shoes, so it was another reason to like them. It really just was enjoyable to create and exciting to watch it come together into an actual project I was proud of.
